Boyd Blackburn earned his A.B. in Economics from Davidson College and his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Toronto. He was a statistical programmer at UNC for several years before meeting Jason as they began their middle school math teaching careers.
Dr. Blackburn is the math teacher for the LEAP program for highly gifted students at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill. For eight years, he has been preparing some of the top students in the state for MathCounts, the AMC8, the AMC10, and the Algebra and Geometry State Math Competitions. In 2007 he coached the state MathCounts champion. Dr. Blackburn also taught the state’s only two perfect scorers on last year’s AMC8.
